Probably not the first place that springs to mind, when you think about visiting Spain. Set amidst Spain’s lemon groves, Alicante is anything but a lemon!
It has a thriving gay scene, in much larger than you’d expect gay bars. But then, Alicante does have some of Spain’s top universities, which accounts for much of the activity and a substancial lively, young crowd.
I am convinced it would have been a major gay tourist destination, had it had a beachfront instead of the harbour taking up all of the water’s edge. Many people take the trip up from Benidorm for the much livelier nightlife here.
